Most essential and popular incontinence products

Most popular ones are absorbent pads that soak up urine. These pads are worn inside the underwear. They work the same way as babies’ nappies where skin still stays dry even right after urinating (this happens because of the hydrophobic layer which lacks affinity for water).

For mild and moderate incontinence, thin pads might be enough already (you can easily buy these from several supermarkets and pharmacies as well as online stores). For severe leaks though, big and bulky incontinence pads are often required (you might find some online if there’s nothing available at a nearby supermarket).

Note though that those incontinence pads are different from sanitary pads. Although cheaper, these sanitary pads often stay damp (which can irritate and sore your skin). In contrast, incontinence pads have that hydrophobic layer where urine is being constantly drawn away from the product’s surface. As a result, the contact surface between the pads and your skin stays dry (and your skin stays healthy as a result).

Although incontinence pads can effectively control leaks, it’s still good to use washable bed pads. As with the incontinence pads that directly stop urine from leaking through and around the underwear, the washable bed pads also stay dry. You can use these bed pads either at your home or when you’re staying at other places (so that others’ beds will also stay clean and dry).
